Product Approval Testimonial: V&A Museum

"As our business has evolved, we find ourselves dealing with increasing volumes of designs on ever expanding product categories. The Mediabox system enables us to manage the design and approval process from concept right through to final samples. It allows us to respond to licensees efficiently, no matter where in the world we, or they, happen to be. Monetize Your Cloud: Brand Licensing

Now that you have the "cloud", the question is what are you going to put in it?

If you have not considered intellectual property (commonly: brand names, icons, characters) you should.

Why? According to the Federal Trade Commission, less than 10 years ago 80% of the components of the S&P 500 Market Value were intangible assets (intellectual property being the largest component). In 2008, global licensing revenue was greater than $150 Billion USD and growing at a rate of 25-35% a year. Yet, while global licensing revenue has increased by up to 35%, IBISWorld (the world's largest independent publisher of U.S. industry research) calculates that the number of companies operating in this field has only increased by 1% annually.

Licensing your intangible assets is an easy way to grow your revenue. If you own the rights to vintage brands, revive them. Established assets do not require extensive marketing or exposure. Newer assets? Test the waters at one of many global licensing trade shows.Once you have interested licensees and have negotiated rights contracts, it is up to your licensees to produce.

Licensees want the rights to your products, most often because there is already a demand for your brand, icon or character. Instead of taking a chance on a new brand name, they buy the reassurance that your brand recognition gives them. They then create products using the rights you have sold them-- all pre-approved by you.

That is where MyMediabox comes in. MyMediabox offers cloud technology specifically tailored to the needs of the licensing industry. Store, share and promote digital assets with licensees in Mediabox-DAM. From there interact with licensees throughout the entire creative process with Mediabox-PA (we can even integrate Licensor/Licensee contracts using Mediabox-DM). The MyMediabox suite helps you ensure the integrity of your brand, while you grow your revenue through licensing.

Licensing International Expo 2011

With an estimated 19,000 attendees from 84 countries, this year’s Licensing International Expo was a huge success! Animal mascots paraded through the show floors while live penguins and otters participated in booth decor- needless to say the walkways were full of excitement!

The show was comprised of more than 200 booths representing 6,000 brands/intellectual properties, which was an increase of more than 12 percent in brands represented as compared to the 2010 show. It looks like Advanstar has already confirmed the dates for next year’s show- which will again take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas (sacbee.com). The name of the show will change from Licensing International to Brand Licensing Expo to reflect more of what the show is really about, the brands (licensing.biz.com).

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth this year! We had a great time meeting with customers, potential clients and licensees as they stopped by for a demo or to say hello. Also, congratulations to our licensee iPod shuffle winners!

Didn’t get a chance to stop by?

What is SaaS?

As companies grow and expand, much of the daily work-flow has been digitized to an online platform. Many new terms have emerged in all areas of business, including: “Remote Software Solutions”, “Cloud Computing” and “SaaS”.

So, what is “SaaS”? Webopedia and Wikipedia have provided descriptions to better explain and define Software as a Service (SaaS) such as Mediabox-PA and Mediabox-DAM:

SaaS - Software as a Service, Storage as a Service

"Short for Software as a Service, SaaS is a software delivery method that provides access to software and its functions remotely as a Web-based service. Software as a Service allows organizations to access business functionality at a cost typically less than paying for licensed applications since SaaS pricing is based on a monthly fee. Also, because the software is hosted remotely, users don't need to invest in additional hardware. Software as a Service removes the need for organizations to handle the installation, set-up and often daily upkeep and maintenance. Software as a Service may also be referred to as simply hosted applications."

_________________________________________________________

"Software as a service (SaaS, typically pronounced [sæs]), sometimes referred to as "on-demand software," is a software delivery model in which software and its associated data are hosted centrally (typically in the (Internet) cloud) and are typically accessed by users using a thin client, normally using a web browser over the Internet.

While practically every Internet service (such as Web search engine or web-based Email) is driven by some underlying software, the term Software as a Service (SaaS) is often used in the context of business applications, and in some cases even more narrowly as software in a category which has on-premises software; i.e., equivalent applications that are installed in businesses' computer networks or personal computers."
