SMC expands licensing program for Angry Little Girls

SMC Entertainment Group is continuing to expand the licensing program for the comic strip and book series “Angry Little Girls!.” SMC is a North American licensing agent for the brands Jungle Book, h2O Just Add Water, Dance Academy, Poppy Cat and the aforementioned Angry Little Girls.

Among the new U.S. licensees are Toynami, Shirt Lab, Whatever Company, Advanced Graphics, Multiverse Studios and Changes. Each licensee will be creating different toys, clothing items, and other merchandise for the brand.

Continued Growth for BLE

Brand Licensing Europe, held last month in London, experienced more growth this year in visitor attendance, as well as an increase in attendance by retailers and overseas visitors. In the event’s 15-year history, this year was the most successful show, with a total of  7,244 retailers, licensees and sales promotion professionals from 69 countries, and a total attendance reaching 9,537 – a 5% growth from last year.

Advanstar Licensing already has plans under way for BLE 2014. The show, which will take place Oct. 14-16, 2014, already has 70 percent of the show floor sold. One of those exhibitor spots belongs to MyMediabox and we are already looking forward to the show!

MAGIC Market Week

It’s that time of year again! The bi-annual MAGIC Market Week kicked off in Las Vegas this past Sunday and will go through Wednesday. Scholastic will be creating a publishing program for Kimmidoll. The program for DRi Licensing’s Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand will start off with two sticker books, followed by a press-out-and-play book, and also a search book.

Tips for Keeping Your DAM System Healthy

A digital asset management system is a great tool for saving time and money. Hosted systems like Mediabox-DAM allow users to manage and share assets from one convenient location with any internal or external guest who has an internet connection.

1. Be aware of aliased assets- duplications lead to redundant data

Earthbound to create licensing program for Sharknado

SyFy channel’s fictional film, Sharknado, generated the most social media mentions of any program in the history of the network. Sharknado 2 is already in the works and is set to debut in July 2014.

SyFy and The Asylum will be working with Earthbound to create a licensing program for Sharknado which will include creating a range of merchandise such as t-shirts, posters, costumes, games, bags and other accessories.

20th Century Fox Theme Park

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products will be developing its first international theme park which is scheduled to open in 2016 in Malaysia. They have partnered with Resorts World Genting, which is investing more than RM400 million to develop the park.

The park will feature more than 25 rides and attractions with a range of themes such as thrill rides, dark rides, children’s rides and water rides. These rides and attractions will be based on the Studio’s popular films including Alien, Predator, Ice Age, Rio, Life of Pi, and Night at the Museum.

Comic-Con Highlights

There were some exciting announcements at Comic-Con International in San Diego last weekend (July 18-21) that has everyone buzzing!

Here are some of the highlights:

• Superman and Batman will team up in a 2015 Movie
• The Avengers sequel titled was announced: “Age of Ultron”
• Guardians of the Galaxy revealed a teaser reel
• Director of "X-Men: Days of Future Past” gave fans a first look of the film

Of course, not everything can go perfectly. There were some issues that the board of directors are already working on resolving. 

Some of those issues include:

• With 130,000 people in attendance, lines were really a problem
• Inadequate security
• Complications with getting Comic-con tickets through the website

Hopefully next year's show, set for July 24-27, will be even better than this year's!
