MediaBox has a dedicated group of developers who are constantly working on new features, bug fixes, and improvements to the software that makes MediaBox hum. Sometimes these efforts result in one or more new features that are easily seen by users. But even more often, the work of the developer team goes unnoticed. And, for the most part, that’s the way they like it.
MediaBox runs 24 hours a day, every day, all year long all around the world. That means there is no “good” time to shut the entire system down for updates or maintenance. However, the MediaBox team is always working on software changes that eventually need to be rolled out to one or more client sites.
To solve this problem, MediaBox developers devised a way to do most updates “silently.” Minor changes are added to the system code-base and then “rolled out” to client sites over several hours. More important updates (for example, new features) will be released one site at a time over several days, sometimes weeks, depending on how these new features affect each client.
On very rare occasions, MediaBox will do major upgrades in the wee hours of the weekend (Eastern Time). When that happens, some users may notice their site is slow or unresponsive for short periods of time. These planned slow periods are kept as brief as possible and are never scheduled during the typical work hours. And this type of upgrade happens only when absolutely necessary.
If the team does their job right they can update the user experience, improve performance, and add new features; all without you ever noticing that they were “in there working.”
So, if one day you are using MediaBox and you don’t happen to notice all the cool changes that were just rolled out, thanks!
